I%26#39;m planning a road trip through Vermont/New Hampshire/Maine during the second week of October. I%26#39;ve read all of the postings regarding how hard it can be to find a room. My question is - is it equally hard to find rooms during the week, or is mostly a weekend phenomenon? I really would like to not be tied down to a schedule by having all my hotel reservations made in advance. I like the idea of just exploring and winding up where we wind up, but if it%26#39;s next to impossible to find last-minute lodging on a weeknight in October, I%26#39;ll just have to do a lot more research as to the kind of trip we want. Any help is appreciated - thanks!
Scarcity of hotel rooms in early OctoberThe weekends tend to be busier traffic wise as many people who own vacation places come up. Depending on your location, you might be disapointed in what%26#39;s availabe and some places want a minimun two nights. Many lodging owners will call aroud and help find you a room. I know that the INN where our gallery is located in 100% filled starting 30 Sept thru 17 Oct. Other owners in the area that I%26#39;ve spoken with say their 60-70% full. Now I have not spoken with everyone in our area and some may have plenty of room even during peak time. I feel you can always find a place looking hard enough.
Scarcity of hotel rooms in early OctoberThanks for the heads up about a two-night minimum. As I only plan on spending one night wherever we are, that would limit my options even further. Looks like I better get to planning!
The two night stay is pretty comman but the later it is in the day, the more willing they are to rent for one night. It%26#39;s a question of do you want to spend time looking for a place that fits your needs or spend time looking at the sites. Chances are that during the week you probably will find something available. hope this helps. If you do come, make sure you visit the jackson - mt washington area.
