We are going to Storyland for the first time with 4 and 2 year old sons week-end of Sept. 17-18. Can anyone recommend a good place to have dinner? Any recommendations on place to stop for lunch on way up from Boston area?
If you have any insider tips on the best way to enjoy Storyland, would love those too.
Thanks in advance.
Family Friendly Resturant for after Storyland
Hi beefarmer.
I guess it would depend on what you like to eat for dinner?
We have been to North Conway 3-4 times over the last few years, and my #1 choice for dinner is the Muddy Moose. Of course, I am 30-something, and I love their ribs. I am kind of guessing that your 2 and 4 year olds are not big on ribs or chicken wings. (I do not recall the kids menu - but I think there are child%26#39;s portions of a number of items). The servings are huge and the food is great.
Stay away from Friendly%26#39;s (unless you feel like clogging up your arteries), and although Mario%26#39;s used to be okay (Italian Food) - or last two visits left a lot to be desired.
Not sure about where to stop on the way up from Boston - nor have I been to Storyland before (sorry).

Two places that are kid friendly and close to storyland are the red fox pub about a mile north on rte 16 ( they have a kids game room) and the scarecrow pub about 2 miles south on 16. Both places cater to kids and have good food. It will cost you more at the red fox.
I will agree with dav.
The Red Fox has great food. I think we ate there twice on our last visit to the North Conway area.
Another little place to check out (for food) is right in Jackson.... it is right across (I think) from the Cross Country Ski Center. It is a little diner - that makes HUGE sandwiches and very good soup. It used to be (in 2004) located down the street, and was called the Village Bistro - but I think the name has changed since they moved in 2005. So sorry that I cannot remember the name. It is good for a lunch stop.
Red Fox Pub has an excellent Sunday brunch. Beautiful big building, the brunch dining room on the east side is huge and gorgeous, they have a corner for kids to play with toys (legos?? stuff like that, I think), and they usually have somebody playing acoustic guitar or some instrument, and the food is very good; been there a few times for brunch; worth the money; also have eaten at Thomson House Eatery in Jackson; good sandwiches and salads for lunch, and they have a nice back porch dining that looks out over trees and bushes. Yesterday%26#39;s in Jackson is a breakfast and lunch place. Lots of locals in there for breakfast, the few times I%26#39;ve eaten there. Take the kids to Land%26#39;s End ice cream, on 302 just past Attitash. They have a great playground for the kids (huge wooden castle and monster truck for climbing on). That%26#39;s all I can comment on for Jackson eateries....North Conway Village and going south towards the outlets has a gazillion dining options.
I forgot about the places in Jackson village. The bistro has changed hands this year unfortunately, not for the better. It%26#39;s named jackson deli. Also next door is where the Red Fox use to be (still owned by them) and it is now named Madeline%26#39;s. I believe they serve till 4 or 5 and they have ice cream and so does storyland. Thompson House has great food but can be a bit slow for a 2 and 4 yr old.
Many of the rides at storyland have a height requirement but there are many rides for smaller children. I%26#39;m not sure if there is a best way to enjoy it other than to get there early and walk around and enjoy. They have strollers for free inside.
Enjoy
and Storyland has a deal whereby if you by your tix after 3pm (or 2pm weekends after Labor Day), then you can return the next day for free (or any other operating day during the current season. For you that would be the next day, though. SO you could do Sat. late afternoon and all day Sun. for one ticket, which is now up to $22. It was $18 last time I was there a couple years ago.
On your way up from Boston it depends if you are goingn 93 or 95, if 93 then plan on getting off of the highway to eat. If you are going 95 there is one rest area on the way up. After that you will hit I believe two diners one called Wakefields and I cannot recall the other one. These two diners are probably about 1 hour before North Conway, it is decent enough.
As for dinner in North Conway I think everyplace up there is kid friendly. Right on 16 down by the intervale area before Attitash is a great rest. called Red Parka Pub they have excellent ribs, and the best steak and a great salad bar. The children menu is very good. And Horsefeathers has excellent food. Go to dinner early the restaurant%26#39;s get really packed.
Have a great weekend there, I will be in Vegas at that time and heading to North Conway in November with my husband to pick up his new snowmobile and Profile RV. North Conway is one of my favorite places to go. I probably head that way at least 4 times a year.
