Hello,
there are 5 of us headed to Portsmouth for the weekend. We are looking to relax, eat, drink, walk around and see the sights. Are there any suggestions on affordable but not cheap place to stay as well as any suggestions for a good place on the water to plant ourselves down for a night out?

There%26#39;s a couple of places at the Portsmouth rotary that are clean and reasonably priced. The Anchorage and Holiday Inn are just a short cab ride to downtown.
Also, another exit north on I-95 brings you to a Marriott Courtyard that%26#39;s about a mile from downtown. If you%26#39;re willing to spend $200 plus a night the Sheraton is right on the waterfront and really the ideal place to be.
I%26#39;d recommend digging in on the patios at Poco%26#39;s, The Gaslight, or Old Ferry Landing if the weather permits. Get there early because the queues can get pretty long. The Gaslight often charges a cover so if you show up early (before dinner), pay your cover and get your hand stamped, then go to eat, you%26#39;ll be allowed back in later in the evening. That%26#39;s the way we used to do it.
If the weather is lousy, seek out the Portsmouth Brewery, Tequila Jacks, Rusty Hammer, Muddy River Smokehouse or the 2 Irish pubs on State Street, Molly Malones and Jack Quigley%26#39;s. Also, there%26#39;s a neat little lounge called the Red Door on State Street that has a pretty cool vibe to it.

Thanks KJFord.
I have heard of the Muddy River Smokehouse. Would that be one of the best that you mentioned? It sound cool from the website. We are thinking of the Holiday Inn.....good place?
OK, well what age group are we talking and when will you be visiting? There%26#39;s really something for everyone in Portsmouth.

Well, I%26#39;m a guy who fits into your age range, so my suggestions should work for you guys.
Have fun and enjoy that great town.
thanks!
If you look at this site, there is a sweet Inn, The Port Inn that meets your criteria.
It also has a heated outdoor pool (the Holiday has an inside one that feels like a sauna on a hot day)
The Port Inn also has a bar-b-que area for the guests, all the rooms have Microwaves and fridges and coffee makers, a free continental breakfast that is much more then coffee and donuts.
I know the Inn and it%26#39;s a wonderful place. It%26#39;s rated much higher then the other places named because it is a family owned business. It also costs less then the Holiday Inn, and, I believe the Anchorage.
The Sheridan is way over price for what you get and has mixed reviews.
I would strongly suggest that you check out the Port Inn.
It was a fun night. THe weather was humid and drizzly but that was okay. Just walked around and went in and out of shops (too pricey for me) Some cute places. Watched some local guys play human Pac Man. That was an odd site but funny. We hit the Muddy River and Gaslight which were both good except that we made reservations for dinner at the Gaslight and then later found out (after we sat) that you can only get pizza downstairs so then we had to wait to move down there. Not much of a wait though. Lots of bachelor and bachelorette parties going on that weekend.
Thanks for all the input.
