I plan to visit Gorham soon. I am interested in moderate hikes of five hours or less that you appreciate the most.
Favorite Gorham Area Hiking Trails
My first choice would be the Tuckerman ravine trail to the summit of Mount Washington. If you are in good shape you will do this in less than 5 hours. The scenery is extraordinary. The trail starts at the Pinkham Notch camp on route 16 south of Gorham. Not sure of the mileage, maybe 10 miles south.
Favorite Gorham Area Hiking Trails
King Ravine, either as a trip in itself or a way up Mt. Adams.
Gentian Pond Shelter, accessible from a trail head just beyond the Shelburne Inn - fast trip up to the ridge, tebt sites, and some interesting loop hikes.
The ultimate: Mahoosuc Notch. It%26#39;s not called ';the worst mile of the Applachian Trail'; for nothing. One mile of boulder scrambling. Probably more than 4-5 hours since you either have to get back through or take a long loop around.
Check out the Randolph Mountain Club (www.randolphmountainclub.org)and the Appalachian Mountain Club (www.appalachianmountainclub.org) for trail info.
A few days ago,I hiked from Pinkham Notch AMOC Visitor to the base of the Tuckerman Ravine roundtrip and it was an invigorating, delightful experience. Thank You. I also hiked from Pinkham Notch AMOC Visitor Center to Lowe%26#39;s Bald roundtrip and I enjoyed that walk very much. For people who want to hike on easier trails,I highly recommend Glen Ellis Falls.
