We%26#39;re going to the Mt Washington area this weekend for an impromptu trip with our 5 and 7 yr old. Any ideas for some short mountain hikes in the area or where to get information about family friendly hikes? My husband does NOT want to go to Storyland!
Family hikes or nature trips
I am not sure what you mean by %26#39;short mountain hikes%26#39;, but a couple of my favorite hikes that I think would be fine for a 5 and 7 year old is Arethusa Falls off 302 in Crawford Notch located West of Mt. Washington. Also Glen Ellis Falls located on Route 16 in Pinkham Notch not far from the Pinkham Notch AMC camp. Glen Ellis Falls would be the easier of the 2. Also, if you want to try a small mountain, Imp Face which is located near Dolly Copp Campground on Route 16 in Gorham or just south of Gorham. Follow this link for a picture from the top of Imp Face.

I did not climb Imp Face but some friends had taken my daughter who was 6 years old at the time and she really enjoyed it!!

Thanks for your post! I had read about Glen Ellis but not the other 2.
Also Pine Mountain, near Dolly Copp, great views for little effort.
Check out the info at the AMC%26#39;s Pinkham Notch Base Camp. The have loads of brochures and maprs - also, a great dirama of Mt. Washington which my kid always enjoyed. You might check out their website as well (www.outdoors.org) to see what programs they may have going on.
