The Whitney Inn

Ok, I realize that you can not please everyone but these reviews are at either extreme. We are scheduled to go and I am very worried. How can there be such differences? Any recent visitors care to share?? Thanks and I will keep my fingers crossed! Kind of stuck now....

The Whitney Inn

Hi Etobin61,

I read all the reviews too! I notice though that the bad reviews only seemed to be in the warmer months?? So, may be they have a Winter staff that they hire where it%26#39;s more popular and busier? Like anywhere else they have there busy seasons and there NOT so busy seasons and probably stock up and keep the place up much better during these winter months. I bet that%26#39;s why may be? Good luck just the same, please, keep us posted on it when you get back to NY! You can always do what my brother in law did with the ';Omni Parker House'; in downtown Boston several years ago! He walked in, and walked right out that front door in two seconds flat! He refused to stay there when they turned the key to the room and saw what it looked like! They ended up cancelling the reservations completely at the Omni and they booked the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge instead! I%26#39;ll never forget it for as long as I live and you know, I was the one that highly recommended the Omni to them, I died, and we had relatives that worked there at the time that were raving about it to us! I don%26#39;t think my sister will ever forget it either with what happened! Since then they%26#39;ve of course done major renovations to the Omni Hotel. It%26#39;s certainly NOT what it looked like back then!

Good luck with the Whitney Inn. May be some one will see this post and hopefully can advise you on how it was for them there!

The Whitney Inn

I%26#39;ve never stayed at the Whitney, but the location is awesome - especialy if you plan to ski Black Mtn. We have frequently stayed at the Dana Place Inn which has experienced some of the same type mixed reviews. I think NoMo is right about the seasonal character of the reviews. Winter makes the ski on-ski off location ideal. Plus, as with other inns this is an old building - you can not expect chain hotel type standards or facilities. My adice, go for it with an open mind Enjoy the character, the location, and the beautiful surroundings.

I stayed at the Whitney last fall. The staff was very attentive. The breakfast was great. The room (we had a one bedroom in the other building) was nothing special but was clean and comfortable. It is a great location for skiing Black and not too far out of town for nights out and/or shopping.

When are you heading up? I am going next week and staying at the Snowflake inn. I was thinking of getting dinner at the Whitney. Let me know what you think of it if you are heading up sooner.

We just got back from the Whitney and a a great time. It is true the inn is not brand new. But the property and staff is charming. We spent $135 a night in the main inn with breakfast. We were right at the mountain, had the dinner in the Shovel Handle Pub on site. I guess if youy are looking for a typical NH country inn, at the mountain with good food in front of a wood burning fireplace, this is a good choice.

As for a couple of other inns in town, we stopped by the Snow Flake and Inn at Thorn Hill. Definetly over priced for the location.

I would suggest the Whitney Inn and will return.
