Could you please offer advice for two separate day trips starting from North Conway. We will be there in early October.
thanks
Two separate day trips starting from North Conway PleaseAh! Foliage time - spectacular time of the year. One trip is rt 16 n to rt 302 w passed the Mt Washington Hotel ( nice to stop and go in if you%26#39;ve never seen it) north to rt 2 east than south on 16 to Mt Washington and pinkham notch. Take the loop through Jackson Village, great restuarnts and shopping and a covered bridge (Honeymoon Bridge - people have carved their names on it for over 100 years) back to Conway. A shorter trip is 16 to pinkham notch and back. Also, a trip in the lakes region is terrific as well. At that time of the year taking any road may offer great views. Get a good map and you won%26#39;t get lost BUT the traffic is usually tough to deal with. Where are you staying?
Enjoy
Two separate day trips starting from North Conway PleaseI%26#39;d suggest taking the Kancamagus Highway (rt 112) just south of Conway Ctr and traveling across to Lincoln. There are a few spectacular vistas here as you traverse the mountains. Then from Lincoln, head up 93N thru Franconia Notch past Cannon Mountain, then take 302E past Bretton Woods/Mt Washington Hotel, with sprawling view of Mt Washington, and pass thru Crawford Notch on the way back to Bartlett and North Conway.
Thank you for the suggestions, I can now map out our daily driving plans. When we leave North Conway for Stowe Vermont any ideas for a day of sight seeing on the way?
When leaving North Conway to go back to Stowe, VT, I%26#39;m guessing you are traveling by way of Rt 93 thru Littleton, NH and then across the state line thru St. Johnsbury??? I%26#39;ve never been north of Franconia, NH, so I don%26#39;t know what is north and west of there in either NH or the NEK. But depending on what scenic drive you take or don%26#39;t take while staying in N. Conway, you could visit a few points of interest along the Rt 93 corridor between Lincoln/Woodstock/Franconia. Take the Kancamagus Highway route west to Lincoln, checking out the vistas en route. Lost River Valley is 10 minutes west of Lincoln on Rt. 112 (river travels along and thru caves and boardwalks). An easy and popular hike is Indian Head in N. Woodstock, with fantastic views. The Flume gorge right off Rt 93 in Franconia Notch State Park. There is a beach and boat rentals at Echo Lake State Park at the base of Cannon Mtn. Tram ride to the summit of Cannon Mtn. Hike down if feeling adventuresome. Sugar Hill in Franconia, 10 minutes north and west of Franconia Notch State Park, is quite scenic with the views south and east to the White Mtn ranges. Lots of Lupine flower fields. I believe there is a handful of museums and gift shops here, too.
I second the Kancamangus recommendation. Another trip would be to the top of Mount Washington, either on the Cog Railway or the auto road.

From North Conway to Stowe here are a couple ideas.
Take Route 302 west to I-93 north. Follow I-93 north until it ends at I-91 in St. Johnsbury. It%26#39;s only about an hour %26amp; a half of straight driving. In St. Johnsbury you could visit the Fairbanks Museum which is a great natural science musuem. If you are a ';dog'; fan, visit Stephen Huneck%26#39;s Dog Mountain and Dog Chapel.
From St. Johnsbury, follow Route 2 west. In Danville, the next town west of StJ, is the Great Vermont Corn Maze (or something to that effect - they have a website).
A few miles west of West Danville you%26#39;ll see ';Danville Hill Road'; with a small sign pointing to Cabot. Take this road into Cabot. In the village, take a left on the main road and you%26#39;ll come to the Cabot Creamery. Be sure to stop and sample the goodies and take a tour. From Cabot follow the main road south to Marshfield and meet up with Route 2 again.
Follow Route 2 west to Montpelier and visit our capital ';city';. Take a tour of the state house and take a walk through downtown. Some great restaurants and shops. From Montpelier, hop on I-89 north to the Waterbury exit. Go north on Route 100. After about a mile you%26#39;ll come to the Ben %26amp; Jerry%26#39;s factory. Stop and have some ice cream! A few more miles up 100 you%26#39;ll come to the Cold Hollow Cider Mill - a popular tourist destination where you can see cider being made as well as shop in their gift store. A few more miles north and you%26#39;ll be in Stowe!
If you%26#39;d like a quicker route just to get there, from West Danville, leave Route 2 and take Route 15 west to Morrisville. Hop on 100 South to Stowe.
Hope this helps!
Thank you for the directions, they are clear and seem easy to follow. I appreciate all of the advice I have been received, if anyone else has furthur suggestions please pass them on.
