We recently celebrated my sister-in-law%26#39;s 50th b%26#39;day at the Three Chimney%26#39;s based upon recommendations from friends and reviews. One of the worst dining experiences in my life! There were 8 of us, and no one had a decent entree - prime rib was sent back, returned and still inedible. The duck breast tasted life beef jerky, veal totally tasteless. How the chef can go 8 for 8 is beyond me. To make matters worse, when I emailed them to express our disappointment, they didn%26#39;t even bother to acknowledge the email. I wasn%26#39;t looking for anything - actually I complemented them on the service, decor, etc, but the food was nasty. Obviously they don%26#39;t care what diners think! Definitely not a keeper in my book.

Three Chimneys Inn
Hi Barbie24,
What a shame! That%26#39;s terrible! I was at the Three Chimney%26#39;s only two times myself. Once, when it first opened, we wanted to see the inside of the place! Every one was raving about it around the Seacoast, so we wanted to see what all the fuss was about! At that time? Nothing really jumped out at me on the menu at all! I mean it was rabbit and venison and things like that (yikes!)
For me when I%26#39;m in a tavern restaurant? I want food, bring it on!!! You know what I mean! Give me the munchies and the appetizers! Well, evidently they revamped the restaurant and tavern and it supposedly was getting a Chef from the Governor%26#39;s Inn up in Rochester, or may be it was vice versa? In any case, I just read now online that the Chef Ted McCormack is from Ron%26#39;s Landing in Hampton.
Another time 2 years ago I tried ';The Terrace'; at Three Chimney%26#39;s and we really liked it ALOT sitting there one lazy hot summer afternoon; out on that patio!
I never really think to go there for lunch or dinner any more, I don%26#39;t know why.
I would think a lot of parents stay there overnight at the Inn if there kids are at UNH?? It looks like it would be really nice to stay there! I read on their site that there%26#39;s also a ';Three Chimney%26#39;s Inn'; in New Haven, CT where Yale University is. Now see that? You learn something new every day!
Another thing I wanted to tell you about that restaurant? It%26#39;s got 3 diamond approval from AAA! Also, voted the Best Inn Dining in New England by the Phantom Gourmet, AND since 1998 it%26#39;s won over and over as the Editor%26#39;s Pick for Inn%26#39;s by Yankee Magazine!
Unbelievable....I%26#39;m wondering if there%26#39;s others out there just as upset as you guys were! So sorry to hear about your terrible experience with dinner there, that%26#39;s such a shame, and such a waste of a wonderful evening!
Thank you just the same for sharing it with us. Some day if you%26#39;re ever in or near Portsmouth? Look for Anthony Alberto%26#39;s Italian Restaurant, better yet, make reservations some day for it, you wont be disappointed, I%26#39;m telling you! It%26#39;s one of the best spots on the Seacoast for wonderful cuisine! It%26#39;s always always been very good and to me it%26#39;s extremely consistant, you never have a bad meal there at all, the atmosphere is truly wonderful, we always save it for special occasions!

I got married at 3 Chimneys in 1999 and the food then was good but not fabulous. Very over hyped for sure. Our decision was more influenced by it having such nice rooms for our guests to stay. We went back in 2002 for an anniversary dinner and were very disappointed with the food.
A month ago, we were invited by friends to go there for dinner before a UNH hockey game. We went downstairs to the tavern, oh my what a difference! The food was GREAT. We got typical tavern stuff, burgers, pizza, etc. It was a loud, social environment with mostly hockey fans and was just perfect. They made great martinis and I just can%26#39;t say enough about how we enjoyed it.
I will note that during dinner I noticed 2 men that came in and looked a little startled at the crowd, they must be regulars and more used to quieter nights there, so check the hockey schedule!
