I am arriving Boston afternnoon of Oct 12 and leaving Bos. the night of Oct 17. I know that I would like to be in Salem for Saturday night probably for sure - other than that I would like to see as much as the Main Coast as possible and would like to spend a day and night i(or more) in Cape Cod. I am having a really hard time deciding the order of this trip. Also, not sure if I should spend one or 2 nights around Portland, one night in Camden or further north and than if its reasonable to expect to make it back to Salem Sat. evening. PLEASE HELP, I%26#39;m stuck.
order - maine coast (how far?), salem, cape cod
Hello,
So you%26#39;ll be arriving in Boston this coming Wednesday the 12th and you want to be in Salem on the 15th which is Saturday. Well if you%26#39;re leaving on Monday night the game plan looks like this to me....
Check out Boston for a few hours by relaxing and walking around the City for a late lunch/dinner some where really good, the North End of Boston starts opening at 5PM so remember that, there%26#39;s a lot of great restaurants in Boston%26#39;s North End if you like Italian food. You could then walk over to Faneuill Hall and check it all out there. Thursday head down to Cape Cod and at least get to Hyannis and check out their Marina, restaurants and different museums in the area. A lot of the Cape closes up after Labor Day though so just remember that. It%26#39;s still a really pretty time to be down the Cape especially during the week.
Get to Salem from the Cape by Saturday at some point, whatever your game plan is; then Sunday at some point leave Salem early and drive up the coast all along Rte 1-B. It%26#39;s so pretty. You could see Plum Island while you%26#39;re exploring, then drive up along the New Hampshire coast which is only about 17 miles of shoreline; then head for Portsmouth, NH along the coast via Rte 1-B right in to Maine; you%26#39;d be in Kittery first where the Shopping Outlets are; then if you stay on this heading north where you see the shops you%26#39;d get in to York, Old Orchard, Kennebunk and Wells, Maine. You could check that part out in a day or two, it%26#39;s up to you! You wouldn%26#39;t have trouble finding a place to stay this time of year because Columbis Day weekend has passed now, so take your pick and decide how you want to do this whole trip!
Enjoy your visit to New England!

By having to be back in Salem so soon, you%26#39;ve sort of limited yourself on how much of the Maine Coast you can see. The prettiest part of Maine, Acadia, is too far away for you to do in that little bit of time. You%26#39;ll spend all of your time driving.
Camded is gorgeous, but with as little time as you%26#39;ve left yourself, you might find Kennebunk/Kennebunkport a better alternatve. Stop there, stay at the Colony Hotel, drive beyond the hotel on Ocean Avenu and see Walker Point, continue to the sweet little lobstering vllage of Cape Porpoise. Eat out there, walk out on the town dock, come back into town and drive around and take in the gorgeous architecture and pretty leaves.
I%26#39;d say head for Maine as soon as you get in at the airport, do as much as you can before you have to come back down to Salem, then do Boston Sunday and Monday.
