Hi New Englanders.
Can anyone recommend any of these railroads over the other for a 5 year old? The Conway Scenic railway, the Mt. Washinton Cog railway or the Boothbay Village railway. All help appreciated.
Thank You.

I would recommend the cog. It%26#39;s a real steam engine and the only cog railway in the US. It%26#39;s a great experience and the scenery is hard to beat. Round trip is about three hours including a short stay on Mt. Washington.
New England Railwaysthank you!!
Both the cog and conway have great but different views. With the cog you are committed to a certain round trip time frame. The conway has trips that vary in length of time and also serves food. You%26#39;ll love both.
Thank you
My husband and I couldn%26#39;t decide between the Cog and driving up Mt. Wash. Weather forced us to take the Cog on our honeymoon in October and we loved it... that said we also decided when we had kids we would defiantly take them up mt wash. and by the road. I think the ride up would be a bit long for the average child, (it was almost too long for me - although my husband thinks he would of liked it as a 5 year old- he admits that he wasn%26#39;t exactly average and had a thing for trains) THe ride up is longer than the ride down and you get 20 minutes at the top, we were told if we wanted more time we could take our chances on an empty seat on the next train, it was absolutely freezing so we didn%26#39;t need more time. Best of luck, ps there is a penny squisher machine at the top and bottom, I love those things.
Thank you for all your help.
The Cog Railway is a unique experience. Very exciting stuff!
We found the scenery made the time pass quickly. My kids have been fascinated by this trip since they were babies-but bundle them up. Weather at the top can be very cold and wiiinndy!!!
There%26#39;s an interesting museum at the Observatory, and of course a snack shop. We%26#39;ve never had a problem catching a later train back down. If your traveling mid-week, crowds will be thinner.
