Hi everyone,
I am from NY and my family and I are looking to take a trip up north during the foliage season. I always hear about new Hamshire and Vermont etc, but I don%26#39;t know where to go and stay. I have two toddler age children. Any help would be welcomed
never been to new hampshire
Do you have specific dates in mind and how old are the ';toddlers';? Foliage can vary quite a bit from north to south. The mountain area would be best, but you would want to vacation in early October if you are heading there.
Age can factor in on a number of the attractions too. The Flume, Lost River and Polar Caves can be a lot of fun, but would tough if the kids are 2 for example. Story Land would be best for young children.. you%26#39;d need to check when they are open in the Fall.
btw... this time of year is very popular.... hotel rooms would need to be reserved ASAP!

I would think that New Hampshire would be better for the foliage - up around the white mountains. I think Vermont is a fit flatter than New Hampshire, i.e. NH might have better foliage because of the mountains.
Try staying in Littleton or North Conway. The scenery up around these areas are fabulours in Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn. There is no bad time to go to these places. They have a load of outlets in North Conway for great bargains and it%26#39;s a gorgeous town with loads of lovely shops, restaurants, and hotels.
Littleton is gorgous too but a lot smaller than North Conway. The Littleton Diner is a must stop on your travels. Check out Thayers Inn for accommodation.
If you go to Vermont, the only place I really know there as a town is St. Johnsbury.
I would recommend the Mt. Washington Valley (North Conway, Jackson, etc. ) Here you are in the heart of the White Mountains, with lots of choices available.
Storyland is wonderful for young children. Located in Glen, very close to either North Conway or Jackson.
North Conway has shopping outlets along the lower section of Rte 16 if your looking for that. It also has a charming and lively downtown area with fun shops and restaurants geared for families (Muddy Moose, Horsefeathers, Red Parka Pub-in Glen).
Jackson is the quintessential New England town complete with covered bridge, Lots of wonderful old inns and B%26amp;Bs.
You might also check out Luxury Mountain Geteways, good choice for families.
If you are looking for outdoor activities, consult the staff at the AMC hut in Pinkham notch. There are lots of interesting hikes in the area appropriate for young kids.
Foliage is usually at its peak in early October, but can vary, I wouldn%26#39;t worry too much about hitting the ';peak';, it%26#39;s beautiful anytime.
Let me know if you have any specific questions. We have visted this area extensivelt since our children were small.
