Hello - our family will be there in mid-oct (14-17) and plan to ride the scenic RR out of Meredith for fall foliage tour. Where can we stay with our 3 yr old? Want to stay at least 2 nights in 2 places or a central location for 4 nights. Flying in to Manchester, so we are open as to locale - as long as we can make an easy day trip to the train. We would like to do the following while in NH: visit a farm, hayrides, fall festivals, see foliage (on the train?). Layed back vacation - to experience the NH Fall season!
Help! Where to stay in OCT w/ small child? NH lakes region...I love the Lakes region of NH so much. It%26#39;s just beautiful. When my nieces/nephews were younger in the summertime we used to go up to B%26#39; Mae%26#39;s Resort all the time, it was such a good location to get to the shops and things going on!
For this time of year though, there%26#39;s an Inn that we drive by all the time and it%26#39;s sooo pretty; the new owners are renovating it and it%26#39;s just incredible to see the change in it. It%26#39;s in Guilford, NH only a few minutes from Meredith so you could get to the railroad and all the shops within a few minutes, you%26#39;d love the scenic road this is on! This Inn has over 200 ft. of their property right on the water and it%26#39;s got the prettiest view from their place, they have 2 or 3 room suites for a good price a night for this time of year. It%26#39;s so so pretty all along this scenic road! Here%26#39;s the site so you can check it out as a suggestion. GOOD LUCK and HAVE FUN!

The Lakes Region, Laconia, Weirs and Merredith is right off of 93, a very easy ride from the Manchester airport. www.weirsonline.com will provide you with alot of lodging choices, depending on your own personal needs and desires.
Three things a three year old shouldn%26#39;t miss in this area is Funspot a huge arcade with quite a few games and rides for little ones including the popular bumper cars for 2-5 yr olds, just north of weirs beach on route 3 (I stop there with my kids whenever we go up to that area).
The Squam Lakes Natural Science Center in Holderness (www.nhnature.org) a great place to learn about the animals and the environment in the New England area. Nice exhibits and nice walking trails. great place.
In Gilford, next to Laconia, Beans and Greens farm (300 Gunstock Hill Road) Corn Maze - not to be missed!! would recommend going during the day rather than at night with a 3 year old, lots of fun!
The Monadnock region, while very beautiful, is a little more difficult to get to from Manchester, probably close to an hour ride. And besides the mountain, there is not alot to do.
The White Mountains are wonderful, but peak folliage may well have passed.
Have a great time!!
The white mountains have a way to go to peak. I was in Jackson this weekend, color was just barely starting to show.
Thanks, to all posters! you have helped tremendously and I have been madly researching all weekend. Anyone know of any good farms to visit or, better yet, a farm stay? I found one out near Keene that looks great, but not sure I want to drive that far West and then Northeast to White Mtns. If I%26#39;m going to do that sort of ';triangle'; I may try to fit in something northwest of Manchester, NH - just over the VT border. Would it be biting off too much to try to do a ';triangle'; of:
THURS: Fly in to Manchester, NH
- Drive to Woodstock, VT region (or possibly south and closer to NH line) stay 1 or 2 days
SAT: Drive NW and take KancaMagus Hwy toward Conway
Stay in Mts for 2 days and then head southward to fly out of Manchester
MON: back to Manchester for return flight
Would I be biting off too much there ?? That would put us on the ';Kanc'; driving west-to-east on the weekend - is that a traffic snarl? My husband will hate that - no matter how scenic!
Good new that it%26#39;s a long way til peak in the mts ! Hold on, leaves until mid-OCT !! 8-)
Check out Farm By The River, in North Conway. Also Shearer Farm Inn in Stowe Vermont. Close to North Conway, NH on the NH/Maine border in Peace With Inn, a farm based B%26amp;B.
