I have wriiten earlier about my friend moving from WV to Portsmouth. I don%26#39;t mean to add another post, but her question now is where does she find a home in a low price range that except pets. Can anyone help her with some areas that are not so expensive under $1000 a month. She has went to the links you all have left, but they%26#39;re $1000- $1500. She needs to know if there are surrounding towns with reasonable rent. And Does New Hampshire have land Contracts? Where you rent to own your home? Thank you all very much. All responses are welcome!!
Moving from WV I have a job in Portsmouth, but no Home...
So we%26#39;re looking for an apartment for a thousand bucks a month or less? I%26#39;m currently in Somersworth, NH, about 10-15 minutes outside of Portsmouth. Maybe look around here or in neighboring Berwick, ME?? I just thumbed thru a local paper and found a number of apartments under $1000 in Somersworth and Rochester (next to Somersworth). Who knows what you get, though....

Hi Carmen56,
You could call Nancy Dow at Lighthouse Real Estate at 1 800 493-4840 and see if she can answer your questions. She%26#39;s from Seabrook, New Hampshire and as an example, there%26#39;s a Real Estate sign on the house next to ours and it%26#39;s from Lighthouse Real Estate, they have a few apartments in there house for rent; the only thing is I doubt if they%26#39;re under 1000 but that doesn%26#39;t rule it out that you won%26#39;t find one for under 1,000. You just have to do your homework that%26#39;s all. Call and ask her about places that take pets, that%26#39;s actually the most important question right now. Tell her how it has to be at least 1,000 or under. If I were you I would check with Cimarron Apartments in Seabrook while you%26#39;re at it....
Here%26#39;s the info for Cimarron www.ecrt.com when you look online the rents look really good, and even if your friend lives here for a year or two and then figures something else out, at least she%26#39;ll have a place. My friend lived over in Cimarron WITH HER CAT for a few years before she bought her house. Something will come along, it%26#39;s just expensive in a lot of these towns now, like every where else these days!
I haven%26#39;t seen this land contract that you%26#39;re talking about but if I were you I%26#39;d ask Nancy Dow, she%26#39;ll help you out, if she can%26#39;t let us know again and I%26#39;ll find out more from some friends that live up here what they%26#39;d do....keep us posted!!!!
Good luck!
Something else to consider:
Be sure to factor in utilities when deciding on a place. Heating costs can play a big factor! A $1000 per month apartment may sound like a fair deal, but not if you are paying $300 per month on heat in the winter! Ask for past heating bills (in writing if possible).
YES it%26#39;s a big thing to think about with these places. That%26#39;s why the Cimarron Apartments in Seabrook might be a good place to move to first; it%26#39;s got heat included. That%26#39;s why my friend moved there first before she bought her house, years ago. Not only do you have to think of that; but this winter the heat bills are going to go through the roof even more in New England. So you might want to see about heat included places; it%26#39;s a much better deal. Even if the heat is turned up too high by the owners and you%26#39;re too hot---like it%26#39;s a geriatric ward? At least you won%26#39;t have to worry about paying for it, just open the window a little or something, remember to bring your fan up from WV!
