White Xmas

Hi Everyone,

For Xmas 2005 we would like to travel to New England and have a white Xmas. As Australians, you may know we don%26#39;t get too many down this way.

We have visited New England before in the Fall and loved it. Could some of you give us some ideas?

There will be a group (4-8) of 35-45 year olds who love a beer and wine. Don%26#39;t mind doing a bit of sking, but don%26#39;t like the crowds. Ideally we would like a cabin or appartment on a lake reasonably close to town (to stock the cooler!!), and close enough to have a ski if we want to. We would also be interested in other activities such as Snow Mobiling, Ice Fishing, or any other.

Thanks for any help.

Cheers GregWA

White Xmas

Hi Greg,

I own a lake front home that may suit your needs. It is close with 1/2 hour to 3 ski resorts. One large and 2 family mountains. It is a 3 bedroom 2 bath home only 4 years old on the lake.

Thanks, lisa

White Xmas

Thanks Lisa,

Sounds like something we could be interested in. Cold you send me some more details? Maybe a website?

First, don%26#39;t be surprised if you don%26#39;t get a ';white Christmas';. Unfortunately, that happens....perhaps not as much in the White Mountain region, but at that time of year, snow can be sporadic. At any rate, I would suggest staying at the Briarcliff Motel (they have a website). Yes, it is a motel, but it is the CLEANEST place you will ever stay. Request the rooms with the porch. Nice views of the mountains. Right in North Conway, so near stores (outlets), restaurants, and beer runs! Walk next door to the Muddy Moose for casual drinks and dinner. Good beer selection. Or, order the Moose Juice! Five different flavored vodkas, soda water, and grenadine. Yum. Also close to XC skiing as well as downhill. Good hiking there in the winter....go to Pinkham Notch. Also recommended is stopping at the Mount Washington Hotel for drinks and a view. Just fantastic! Very pricey to stay there, however.

Have fun!

hello Greg

Try the Manor on Golden Pond in Holderness. It is within 30 miles of several ski resorts, ice fishing on the many of the lakes in the lakes region. Snowmobiling on many trails as the squam trails past the Inn. Great restaurant and cute pub.

Close to everything.

Try the Westwind Bed and Breakfast in Hancock NH......they also have a sister Inn just up the road that I%26#39;ve heard has a groovy pub. My son and I stayed at the Westwind in the fall of 2003, great, great old house! Best country breakfast with real maple syrup straight from the neighbors yard, YUM!!! Roy and Judy run the place, and while there, my 8 year old took a riding lesson from their daughter Michele. There is a lake nearby, but I don%26#39;t know where the local ski resort/lift is. With all that snow, you could probably just hit the pub then have your friends push you down the nearest hill! hahaha Anyway, lovely tiny New England town with all the trimmings.....white steeple, town gazebo, and an awesome crusty cemetary! Rock on mates!!!

Greg,

My wife and I live in Mass and own a business in NH. The last few years have not been very kind to those who love snow sports. The weather has been cold but not much snow. This year Mass and RI may have gotten more snow then NH. Who knows what 2005 will bring! This past week end the temperature was in the 50';s.

I would stay in the Bartlett - Jackson area near Mt Washington as it is colder and the ski resorts came make snow if need be. Also, it is usually colder for the water to freeze which is important if you go ski mobiling. You would be close to Maine for you to take advantage of their attractions ( they may have more snow). There are many inn%26#39;s, condo%26#39;s etc for all of you to stay in. Go to Jackson chamber of commerce web site and you can link to various informational sites. There are many condo%26#39;s in the area for rent. The village of jackson is very small Swiss style place that is totally decked out during the holidays-lights, snow sculptures, horse sleigh rides, wildcat river falls, great area resturants , some with music. Bretton Woods ( Mt Washington Hotel) is about 30 minutes away and well worth a look if you have never seen it. Well worth the trip.

Greg,

If you haven%26#39;t found a place yet you can look the website my wife and I just finished the other day. We are still putting some finishing touches on it...

I believe we have what you are looking for. We have decided to make this home a rental since we can no longer live there because of my work situation. Anyway, it is four-season (waterfront) and close to everything! (Gunstock ski resort is only 12 miles away).

Take a look if you choose. We wish you the best in your search.

Respectfully,

Hello!

I live in Conway NH, have forever! I get sick of the snow, but see how others who don%26#39;t see it very much love it, especially at Christmas! Don%26#39;t worry, we usually have some snow at Christmas time. Here are some recomendations from a local-

-Nordic Village ( I believe they have cottages) 603-383-9101

-Sunny Brook Cottages 603-447-3922

-The New England Inn- has cottages with fireplaces-1-800-826-3466 this is very secluded in Intervale, NH, yet very close to everything. It has a well known restaurant on the premise yet is away from big crowds. You should definately check this one out!! Intervale is just north or North Conway and the NE Inn is about 5 minutes from Mt. Cranmore. There really isn%26#39;t much for cabins on the lake unless you rent privately because the lakes are all about 10-15 minutes from town and about 20-40 minutes from ski areas.

Good luck!!

Kelli

I live in Southern NH and there is no better place in NH then North Conway. The town is adorable with shopping, restaurants and bars. The location is perfect for winter sports. This would be a wonderful spot for you. They have nice hotels and a lot of locals rent vacation homes. As for the white Christmas, most of the time we don%26#39;t have one.
