Hello, we%26#39;re gonna be passing through the White Mountains on a monday in mid-august and thought we%26#39;d stop for a look round!
My USA guidebook describes North Conway as ';full of budget motel accomodation...'; Do you think it would be okay to just turn up and bag a room or should be definitely book in advance - i ask %26#39;cos this glut of cheap motels don%26#39;t seem to have a presence on the net.. other towns in the area would be fine too.
Thanks in advance.

forgot to say - we%26#39;re off to Boston the next morning. So south of the white mountains would be okay too.

North Conway can be tricky...Sometimes you can just show up and find a room and sometimes you can%26#39;t..I would strongly suggest that you look into booking a room in advance..
But here%26#39;s a couple of sites that might assist you in finding a decent priced place to stay..

I%26#39;ve stayed at Comfort Inn a few times and have gotten some good rates..But that depends on when you go and if they are running any specials.

thanks for that - i%26#39;ll investigate.
much appreciated.

You%26#39;re right about the budget motels not showing up on the net. There are some small, simple, clean roadside motels that can be reasonable, but you are taking your chances with vacancies. Although you might just catch a piece of luck if it%26#39;s Monday.
Also check out the Holiday Inn Express in North Conway.
Best bet in North Conway: The Cranmore Inn
www.cranmoreinn.com - the place is clean, reasonable rates, great country breakfast, and the owners are super-knnowledgebale about the area. Check it out.
you can also try the Lincoln side of the White Mountains. Makes it a straight shot to Boston the next day.
