Never been to NH, where are the best places for families?

We are looking to visit New Hampshire in the winter. We have 2 small children and are looking for some fun snow type activities and resort type places to stay. We are from California and have been interested in seeing this side of the east coast. Any suggestions?

By ';fun snow type activity'; do you mean skiing? Most ski mountains offer programs for young children. Some locales to consider with on slope lodging would include Waterville Valley, Loon Mountain, or Attitash. Also, Black Mountain in Jackson is a great little mountain.

Both Waterville %26amp; Loon have a lot to offer, with good dining and lodging options. These are both located off Rte 93.

Attitash %26amp; Black Mtn are in the Mt. Washington Valley area which puts you near North Conway for shops and restaurants, also close to Jackson for unbeatable New England charm (covered bridge included!).

Nestlenook Inn in Jackson offers ice skating, and horse drawn sleighs. Also has a good variety of accomodations, including condos, that work well for families.

Whitney%26#39;s Inn is located at the base of Black mountain, and geared for families (check out reviews on this site). Black is small enough that you can keep track of the little ones.

What age children?

Good morning lv2vctn,

There%26#39;s all types of beautiful resorts in the White Mountain area of New Hampshire; that is probably the best place to go for fun snow type activities in the region.

There%26#39;s the Mt Washington Resort at Bretton Woods. It%26#39;s having a Victorian Holiday with Santa Dec. 16-18th, as well as different events throughout the holiday season, you can read about them on there site. Check it out at www.mtwashington.com

There%26#39;s the Christmas Farm Inn at Jackson, NH or the Nestlenook Farm Inn where they have a great ice skating rink. If you stay at the Christmas Farm Inn your family can go over to the Nestlenook Farm Inn to skate.

They have cross country skiing in Jackson, there%26#39;s a lot of different Inns and Resorts to stay at. Check out www.nhliving.com to see the different ones mentioned. There%26#39;s a beautiful one called the Wentworth Inn in Jackson Village that%26#39;s pretty nice.

If I were you? See if you can get reservations for the Mt. Washington Resort at Bretton Woods first. It%26#39;s got all the amenities you need, it%26#39;s probably one of the best resorts in the White Mountains to stay at with a family during the holiday season.

Call as soon as you can because this is the start of there busy season in this region.

Another beautiful Resort that I%26#39;ve been checking out lately online is the Balsams, located at 1000 Cold Spring Rd in Dixville Notch, NH. They have all kinds of interesting events going on during the Holiday season. You can view there site at www.thebalsams.com or call them at 1 800 255-0600 to talk to them about a package.

If you happen to be near the Red Fox Bar %26amp; Grille in Jackson, NH while visiting this area, they%26#39;re having a Yankee Swap with Santa that looks really fun! Dinner starts at 4PM with seating in the Iron Mountain Room for it, then the event with Santa starts at 7PM, it looks like it would be really fun!

There%26#39;s a lot of activities and events like this going on around the different resorts and restaurants. You%26#39;ll be busy!

Enjoy your visit to the White Mountains, you%26#39;ll really love it!

I suggest going snow skiing, ice skating, and so forth. The good thing about New England is that there are a lot of states very close to each other. You should try to see a few places while you%26#39;re there. Maybe drive to Maine or Vermont as well. I recommend getting a Go Ski Card (goskicard.com) if you plan on snow skiing. Try Santa%26#39;s Village, just google for that one...and i suggest taking your kids to a smaller type mountain to learn how to ski if they are around 6 years old? Maybe Ascutney Mountain, because it%26#39;s a good learning mountain.

No soliciting intended honest. The best place to find B %26amp; B%26#39;s or family friendly motels in Southern NH is www.monadnocktravel.com. Granite Gorge is a great ,small, manageable, family ski area with snowboarding, tubing and cross-country skiing.A destination resort would be The Inn at East Hill Farms and you can find them through that website. I believe they are open even in winter. Happy travelling. You%26#39;ll love the east coast.

The Surry House

About 10 years ago, when our kids were little, we took them to the Christmas Farm Inn in the summer. It%26#39;s pricey, but the boys loved the food, the accommodations were comfortable, and they had a barn with games, etc., where the kids of all the guests gathered in the late afternoon and early evening to play together and watch videos. There are great hiking trails on the property, too. I imagine it%26#39;s just as pleasant in the winter.
